Lang Motors Full-Service Maintenance Agreements (LMSA)

Preventive Maintenance Agreements: Rewarding Responsibility – Protect your investment – Maintain a higher trade-in value.

Repair and Maintenance Agreements: We’ll put it in writing – Planned approach to scheduled services and repairs at a pre-determined price.

Custom Designed Repair and Maintenance Agreements: LMSAs offers as a menu, options that can be tailored to meet the needs of any customer, or their electric vehicle.

The three levels of LMSAs are used to support a variety of electric vehicle that are sophisticated, expensive, and critical to the needs of the customer. Service quality is high and specific; measurable downtime may also be available.

The cost of LMSAs may be higher than that of some other service options, but it is also predictable. This makes budgeting easier, and it also permits other aspects of asset management (such as the calculation of equipment life-cycle costs) to be performed more rapidly.

Lang Motors will perform thorough preventive maintenance in order to minimize vehicle problems; the customer may, as a result, benefit from better vehicle performance. The degree of financial risk assumed by the customer in supporting their electric vehicle covered under LMSAs is also easy to evaluate: there is no risk.

There is a need for LMSAs, but their value should be maximized by focusing on the particular electric vehicle for which they are most needed. The degree to which LMSAs are necessary will also depend on the customer’s region, type and value of electric vehicle, and the availability of replacement vehicle to cover any downtime.

Preventative Maintenance Services (Inspections)

Customers will have the option to protect their investment by servicing their electric vehicle correctly and on time. With proper servicing, their vehicle will have better availability and lower operating costs.

Benefits

  • With a regular Preventive Maintenance inspection small problems are found before becoming major repairs. This allows these repairs to be scheduled at times convenient to the customers’ workload, thus increasing the vehicles’ availability.
  • The true condition of the electric vehicle is always known, which allows the customer to make better decisions regarding their investment.
  • A well-maintained electric vehicle operates better and longer between major repairs. By keeping the vehicle in good operating condition, repairs usually cost less and are required less often.
  • A well-maintained electric vehicle with good record keeping of services and repairs usually has a higher trade in value.

Maximizing Contract Value

By definition, a LMSA involves no risk. It is the “no-surprise approach” to electric vehicle support. It is a mechanism through which the customer can obtain a high level of service quality at a predictable cost. The use of a LMSA also makes budget planning easy, since the cost is known in advance.

Frequent preventive maintenance will extend the useful life of the electric vehicle. It may also have the effect of improving its performance.

Continued training support from Lang Motors should be particularly helpful to customers. For notable clients including national / provincial and municipal governments, the provision of educational resources and programs for their staff should be especially important; it goes beyond repairs and maintenance to supplement their education budget.

It is important that the consideration of support options begins at the time of purchase of an electric vehicle (so that Maintenance Agreements can be in place when the warranty for vehicles expires) and that all departments concerned are involved at point-of-sale.

Specifying Services

  • Uptime guarantees can be flexible, but a stated uptime guarantee is still of value.
  • Preventive maintenance periods, problems attributable to misuse, and situations caused by improper environmental control are not treated as downtime.

Preventive Maintenance is important to the life and performance of electric vehicles, but can be highly disruptive to a customer’s daily chores. For this reason, a LMSA should specify the hours during which preventive maintenance is to be performed, its frequency, and the time limits within which it is to be completed. If the service department is scheduled to be unavailable for 4 hours for preventive maintenance, for example, the contract should specify its availability for use at the end of that period.

Conclusion:

The disadvantages of LMSAs are that they tend to have a higher upfront cost than other methods, and that it may be necessary to commit the customer to a multiyear contract in order to obtain all of the benefits available.

The primary advantages of the LMSA are:

  • no risk
  • predictable cost
  • high level of expertise with Lang Motors technicians
  • remote diagnostics
  • access to parts
  • uptime guarantees

Comments:

  • The three levels of LMSAs represent good service options for many customers; the focus on provision of high-quality service is generally effective in optimizing the performance (and longevity) of electric vehicles.  At the same time, the ability to potentially ease the financial risk faced by the customer in the case of major vehicle failure can be valuable to the organization.
  • In some cases, customers may have unrealistic expectations where LMSAs are concerned. Obviously, the customer will want to obtain the highest possible level of service at the lowest possible cost. The service management team should realize though, that a comprehensive level of service will, of necessity, be available only at a higher cost than that of a service plan that is less complete, and this must be conveyed to each customer.
  • Customers may find it most effective to choose different types of Maintenance Agreements based on the mix of electric vehicles in place within the company / multi-vehicle-households. For example, an older electric vehicle that is used only as a backup unit for a newer model may be most efficiently covered by an agreement that supplies only Preventive Maintenance.

In comparing the cost of LMSAs with that of other service providers, customers should bear in mind more than direct costs alone. LMSAs may be of greater value over time through their ability to decrease downtime (improving productivity and customer satisfaction), provide remote diagnostics, and extended the useful life of the vehicle through conscientious preventive maint
